The Weekly Reads (2)

Posted May 30, 2025 by Wena in Features | 0 Comments

The Weekly Reads is where we recap our week in books. It’ll look different from week to week but we’ll talk about the books we loved and the books we didn’t. Or maybe we’ll just list the books we read and the grades we gave them. But whatever we read, you’ll find them here.

Here’s what we consumed this week…let’s talk about it!

The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas | 4 out of 5
Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass #4) by Sarah J. Maas | 5 out of 5
Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood | 2.5 out of 5
Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5) by Sarah J. Maas | 5 out of 5

This week was a busy week for me but I still got a lot of reading done. I finally finished The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas and thought it was okay. Chloe tells me that it’s needed for the coming books but I don’t see it, not yet anyway, so I’ll just keep on keeping on. I also read Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood which was another nerd love romance that…meh. Immediately after that, I jumped right back into the Throne of Glass series with Queen of Shadows and LOVED that one. Lysandra! Dorian! Rowan! Ahhh, I have so much love for that book. Then I started Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas and finished that entire book (all 700 pages) in three days and I am completely wrecked. Just when I think this series can’t get any better, it does and now I’m starting Tower of Dawn and ready to see what Chaol’s been up to since we last saw him. To say that I’m hooked on this series is putting it so mildly. I haven’t loved another series like this one since Kate Daniels so I’m planning to re-read that entire series once I’m done with Aelin Galathynius. Sigh. I had such a good reading week.

Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood | 3 out of 5
Rewind it Back (Windy City #5) by Liz Tomforde

It’s been a hectic week for me with end of school for my son and my daughter’s recital then getting ready for a trip so my reading has been a bit slow. But I was able to read Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood. I didn’t hate this book, but I also didn’t love it. I don’t know if I watch too many crime shows, or if I’m just really good at putting things together, but everything seemed so obvious to me. I did really like Levi though. Now, I’m reading Rewind it Back by Liz Tomforde. This is book 5 in the Windy City series (pro athletes, hockey, basketball, and baseball. If you haven’t read this series yet, go read it) and I’m so excited to finally get Rio’s story!

Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren | 5 out of 5
Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood | 3 out of 5
The Perfect Son by Frieda McFadden

This week was a good reading week for me. I finished Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren and let just say…10 out of 10, would definitely recommend. I loved it so much that I decided to jump right into our book club book, Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood and then I finished it in one sitting. Now, I’m taking a break from romance and going to start The Perfect Son by Frieda McFadden and get lost in a thriller to end off the week.

There you have it, my weekly recap. How was your week?
